Potential refugee

In 1995, the Times magazine published an article about the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. The story was supported by black and white photos of victims murdered by the Khmer Rouge. A photo of a mother holding a baby in her arms is deeply touching. Her faded, defenseless and sad look is intense, and with the materials then available I made my first portrait. I gave this portrait the title: Potential Refugee as the woman had no chance to flee the horror that was hunting her.
