Flower of inspiration – Nina Simone

This is a pastel drawing of Nina Simone with her fist raised, symbolizing Black Power. After becoming aware that as a black woman she were never allowed to be a classical pianist she devoted herself to singing protest songs. The yellow circle symbolizes the rising sun she sings about in one of her songs. The image is like a butterfly, graceful in design, fresh colours full of power and a sad look that expresses her feelings.
